Crestwood alumni Zachary Brown (’14) was honoured this past weekend by Stanford University as one of 25 recipients of the J.E. Wallace Sterling Award for Academic Excellence. The award is presented to the top 25 graduating students in the Faculty of Humanities and Science at the prestigious west coast university. Zachary, who has been studying American History, will graduate this June with an Honors Bachelors of Arts. As Dean of Humanities and Sciences Richard Saller noted during the awards ceremony, considering that 45,000 students applied 4 years ago to be part of this class, these 25 students represent the top 0.0005% of academic achievement. Sharing in the honours this weekend was Crestwood Preparatory College teacher Jason Hawkins, who was selected by Zachary as the secondary school teacher who he wished to have recognized by Stanford for helping shape him most during his high school career. As part of the award, Stanford arranged for Mr. Hawkins to attend the awards luncheon in Palo Alto as an honoured guest. During the luncheon, Stanford history Professor Johnathan Gienapp and Mr. Hawkins shared with the audience their reflections on Zachary as a student during their time working with him, while Zachary spoke of the profound role of his experience at Crestwood in helping him put him on the path towards success in his chosen field. Moving forward, Zachary has accepted an offer of admittance from Harvard Law School, where he intends to complete a joint J.D.-PHd. Congratulations to Zachary and Mr. Hawkins for the recognition from one of North America’s finest educational institutions.
