On Wednesday Crestwood students travelled to the Air Canada Center to join 20 000 other students and teachers in celebration of global service and citizenship at WE Day. Activists, celebrities, students and teachers shared stories of experiences and initiatives that were started to make the world a better place. Topics ranged from bullying and stopping girl-on-girl hate to Truth and Reconciliation with our first Nations and water and education initiatives in developing countries.
Some highlights include guest speakers Nellie Furtado, Olympian Penny Oleksiak, Paula Abdul, Spencer West and Margaret Trudeau. As well as powerful, performances by Lilly Singh, Hedley, Macklemore, Jason Derulo and Gord Downie performing a song from his new album The Secret Path which tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a First Nations man you died escaping a residential school in the dead of winter.
Students were left with incredible memories and the inspiration to take what they’ve heard and do some good in the world.
