Washington–By Sabrina Wasserman

On Thursday, November 12, 30 groggy Crestwood students awoke in the early hours of the morning to embark on an exciting trip to Washington D.C. The trip provided students with exciting opportunities to explore the cultural and political parts of Washington through various museums, walking tours, and even sporting events.

The trip began with a trip to the Newseum, which allowed students to explore the history of news from across the globe. Students there had the opportunity to see many exciting exhibits, including a real piece of the Berlin Wall, and scaffolding from the Twin Towers building in an exhibit that explored the events of September 11, 2001. Students also embarked on a walking tour of the Washington monuments, and explored Arlington Cemetery, paying homage to the gravesite of those who sacrificed their lives throughout American history. Other highlights of the trip included touring the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and visiting the five different Smithsonian Museums to learn more about American culture and history. Students were especially excited to attend a Washington Capitals hockey game, where they cheered on the Capitals, even after they lost a valiant fight to the Calgary Flames.

Overall, the trip was a great learning opportunity for Crestwood students to explore more about the United States, and bond with classmates – and do a lot of walking!
