Varsity Hockey Conquers Nichols School with a Win!

Hockey

After a two week hiatus, the Varsity Hockey Team took to the ice last night against RSGC.  The team started off sluggish and slow, but were able to turn things around by the end of the second period.  With some spectacular saves by Roy Pejcinovski down the stretch and some explosive offence from Sam Li and Christian Campanelli, the team was able to cruise to a 4-2 victory.

Thursday night the Varsity Hockey traveled to Buffalo to take on Nichols School and the team did not disappoint.  Jumping out to a quick lead, Crestwood was no competition for Nichols on this day, defeating them 15-4!  Great play by all in both ends of the ice. After the game, the team celebrated with wings and soda at the Anchor Bar, home of the Buffalo Wing, before coming back home.  Your coaches are very proud of you and how you handled yourselves on this trip!
The U-14 Hockey team played a strong squad from Crescent last night, falling 7-1 to a strong offence.  The boys came out slow last night and had a steady stream of players parading to the penalty box, leaving us short-handed on the ice for most of the game, and therefore short-handed on the scoreboard.  Phillip Stroganov had a nice assist on Dylan Wilkinson’s beauty snipe for the only goal of the game.  The team’s last regular season game will be played next Wednesday at Country Day School.

Swimming

The Varsity Swim Team had another great meet Wednesday. Shout out to season rookie, Victor Stroganov, who posted fast times in all three of his events. Greg Quon absolutely smashed his 50 freestyle, having his best race of the season, and dropping 2.5 seconds! Megan Pearlman and Audrey Melkomov battled it out in the 100 backstroke, earning the gold and silver for CPC. Kaitlyn Balter had her second awesome meet in a row, posting another 3 best times! Although there were amazing swims from all swimmers, the best races were seen by Grade 12 student, Elizabeth Keane. It was her last competition as a CPC student, and she won both her heats, and dropped a stellar 7 seconds in her 100 freestyle! Congratulations to all swimmers! Coaches are excited for the Championship Meet on Valentine’s Day!

We travelled in style – it took the team effort to figure out how to open and close the door but we travelled together as a team in the new CPC bus.  That was the beginning of an awesome day.  Zach Black not only swam despite his injury but managed to achieve his all time personal best time.  James Gillingham smoked his 50m Freestyle, Chloe Werkin and Ben Davidson achieved best times in both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke.  Grace Geng was nervous but attempted all of her events and did a stellar job.  The highlight of the day goes to our relay team of Jordan Nikolov, Chloe Werkin, Benjamin Davidson, and James Gillingham who’ve all swam their absolute best to save the day.  Special thanks goes to Amy Cai who not only helped us time the event but also coached other swimmers refine their strokes.

Basketball

In their opening game Thursday morning the Senior Boys Prep team beat GTA North with a world-class defensive showing the final score was 72 to 48!!!  As the boys moved to their second game Thursday night against NPA rival Toronto Basketball Academy, it was a nail-biter. Our Lions began the game up 17 to 2 in the first quarter, however, TBS battled back to end the half up by 3!  This was a heated battle from start to finish. Our Crestwood Lions struggled from the charity stripe all game. However, hustle play after hustle play and offensive rebounding by the guards and bigs kept us neck and neck with TBA. Great shooting from Trevon Tomas brought CPC back from being down by 7 to being down by 3. A clutch 3 pointer from Elijah Fisher woke the entire gym and it was a brand new ball game all over again with only 3 minutes left on the clock.  Our Lions headed into DOUBLE OVERTIME with Somachi Agbapu hitting the winning basket in the paint to seal the deal, crowning CPC the victor.  The Sr. Prep Boys will be playing this Saturday at 2:30 pm at John Polanyi in the Semi-Finals.  Go Lions Go!
