The U12 softball team had two games this week. They had their home opener against Montcrest on Tuesday, followed by a big contest against UCC on Thursday. Crestwood started slow out of the gates while Montcrest opened the game with a 5 run first inning. Crestwood answered back as Cole E. smashed a big homerun to get the team pumped up. The Cubs tied it up at 5 in the second inning only to give the lead back to Montcrest who opened the game up 9 to 5 going into the 5th inning. Big hits from Aidan L., Sean Z. and Pyper S. got runners on base letting Aaron V-R and Josh M. lock in a couple RBI’s. Down 9 to 7 heading into the final inning the U12 Cubs shut down Montcrest with 3 quick outs. Jesse C made a great catch at 2nd base and there was strong play at the plate by Michael F. With one last chance at bat to claim victory the Cubs rose to the challenge. Hits from Alex K., Lorenzo M and Tim K allowed Charli A. to bang home the game winning RBI beating Montcrest 10-9.
Thursday’s contest against UCC saw these comeback kids swing into action!! The game started with UCC taking a strong 9-0 lead. After a rousing out at home plate by Thurman Z. the cubs were not willing to be embarrassed on their own field and decided it was time to step it up. With strong play in the field Crestwood shut down the UCC scoring and started up their bats. The Cubs got into the game closing the gap to bring the UCC lead to 10-8 by the bottom of the 4th inning.
Without hesitation the U12’s took the lead back in the bottom of the 5th going ahead of UCC 11-10. Though UCC would score again in the top of the next inning making it 12-11, there was no way the Cubs were going down gently. Just to be sure the Cubs swung away tallying another 5 runs to bring the final score 16-12 for Crestwood! What an exciting game! Way to go Cubs!
