Crestwood staff and students took part in the school’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday morning. Student speakers, the Crestwood Voices choir, and members of the Crestwood band led a multimedia presentation featuring songs, student artwork, and video highlights from Crestwood’s Oral History Project archives.
Organizers Mr. Masters and Mr. Hawkins were particularly thankful that a large number of honoured guests were able to attend the ceremony. Lt.-Commander Cameron Fancey, of the Canadian Forces College, shared with students his thoughts, as a current member of the Canadian Forces, on the topic of Remembrance. World War 2 veterans Lorne Winer and Kelman Cohen, Korean War veteran Leon Moyen, and Canadian Peacekeeps Jim Fowler, Doug Smith and Pieter Zuber were in attendance, helping students and staff put faces and names to those we remember on this important day. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, including District Education Officer Helen Pearce, were also in attendance.
It is the school’s hope that students and their families will take the opportunity to attend a Remembrance ceremony tomorrow, and consider some of the lessons of today’s assembly during the moment of silence marking the 99th anniversary of the end of the first World War.
