This week, the Grade 5’s continued to learned about the skeletal system with a visit from Dr. Lisa, a chiropractor and a Crestwood mom! We got down to the business of bones, learning a lot of fun facts about our skeleton. Did you know that children have growth plates at the end of their bones, which allow us to grow? We learned that healthy habits now grow strong bones for life. For example, going outside at recess is about more than just exercise; the sun provides vitamin D, which carries the much-needed mineral calcium to our bones. We also looked at some real x-rays, and learned about the amazing medical breakthroughs that treat arthritis and osteoporosis. We will continue to study the human body with a visit from Scientists in School and an upcoming trip to the Science Centre!
