Daven is a Grade 11 student at CPC who was able to partake in the Ontario Model Parliament Program. Find out more about this wonderful experience, through a piece written by him!
The Ontario Model Parliament Program is a great opportunity for students in grades 10 through 12 to meet some of the most interesting people in the province. This year, 107 student delegates from across Ontario were selected to attend a three-day conference at Queen’s Park. There, delegates attended mock caucus meetings, and saw where MPPs debate on a daily basis and pass bills. My favourite and most memorable moment was sitting in my MPP’s chair and having the opportunity to ask a question to the assembly during Question Period. Other memorable moments include getting special access to roam the building, having dinner at a restaurant with the friends that I met during the program, and meeting the wonderful people who run our provincial government. Some of these people included the Premier, the Lieutenant General, leaders from each party, and the Speaker of the House. This program is a great start if you plan to go into politics, or if you just want to meet some new people from across the province. I loved my experience!
