Lots of exciting games have been going on this week! Click for updates and the schedule!
Senior Boys Rugby
The Senior Boys Rugby Team travelled to Albert College on Wednesday for a beautiful day of Rugby Seven’s. Our first match against Albert College was a close one but, CPC came up just short with a score of 14-12 – Braden Harris scored 2 tries and had one conversion in this match. Our second game was against the first place Pickering College Squad. It was an excellent game of back and forth play, but unfortunately Pickering College got a try to pull ahead in the final minutes of play. Artie Shlykov scored one try in this match. The final match was the highlight of the day! Crestwood defeated Rosseau Lake College by a score of 57-0. Braden Harris had 2 tries, Brandon Baijnauth had 2 tries, Chris Sanders had 2 tries, and Andrew Gdanski and Luca Lettieri added a try each. Excellent team effort!
Junior Girls Soccer
On Wednesday, the two undefeated teams in Junior Girls’ Soccer League faced off against each other for first place in the division. It was a rough and tough battle from start to finish with both teams playing a very good defensive game. There were not many chances, so it was critical to take advantage on any possibility. This is exactly what Crestwood did as they ended the first half, up 2-0. The second half saw Lakefield push even harder, but CPC’s strong defence was able to withstand the pressure. With an exchange of goals in the second half, the game ended with a score of 3-1 for Crestwood.
Special mentions go out to Georgia Gardner whose defensive hustle kept the opposition at bay, Willa Easton who is developing into a relentless and tough attacking player, and Arden Kell who showed great heart playing with a badly sprained ankle. The last season of the game is Monday, May 16th, against SJK!
Senior Boys Softball
Despite starting one man down without any subs, Crestwood’s Senior Boys softball team put up a valiant fight this Wednesday in their game against Lakefield College.
The team got off to a slow start, and were down 10-2 after two innings. However, during the third and fourth innings, the boys got the bats going, and managed to tie the game 11-11 going into the final two innings.
Unfortunately, the team ran out of gas after its mid-game surge, and lost by a final score of 19-14 following some untimely defensive errors.
Stars of the game were Aaron Joshua, David McCall, and Joe Eisentraut, each of who had 3+ RBI games.
U14 Girls Soccer
The U14 Girls soccer team played two games this week. On Wednesday, despite jumping out to a quick lead on a sharp angled shot by Kyra Grossman, the girls could not ward off the York offensive players, and eventually fell 3-1 by full time.
Honorable mentions go out to the entire team, with special mentions going out to Maddie Milberg, Katie Harding and Vanessa Kozick.
Ultimate Frisbee
The Ultimate Frisbee Team played their second game of the season on Monday night. CPC had a terrific start and were very evenly matched for much of the game. There were fantastic defensive plays by Daven Siu, Matti Maclachlan, Kelly Chu, Molly Wilder-Karabus and Juliana Yan. The handlers had challenging conditions with strong winds, and an even tougher time with a strong defence to contend with. We saw fantastic throws connect when it mattered most and watched Matt Cohen, Simon Yuan, and Joseph Zuckerman make great tosses. The team made hard cuts and gave it their all to catch the disc in the end zone, and a shout out goes to Pearl Chen, Sydney Steiman, and Josh Zweig.
The Havarga/Cresent team pulled ahead towards the end, and CPC wasn’t able to close the gap, losing in the final few plays of the game. However, the Lions showed amazing team spirit and made Crestwood proud even when things got heated on the field. Well done Lions.
