The U-14 curlers took to the ice on Tuesday against the defending champions from Bayview Glen. This was a tight match, which went back and forth throughout. Skip Ally Sone bailed her team out a number of times in the first few ends with several clutch shots, but Bayview Glen kept up the pressure and took a 4-3 lead after three ends. Crestwood came out strong after the break, stealing two in the fourth before BVG struck for three more in the fifth end. With last rock coming home, Crestwood was down one, but excellent draws by Amy McCulloch and Max Spillner put us in a winning position. However, the curling gods were with Bayview Glen and they got several fortunate bounces off of missed shots (welcome to U-14 curling!) to score three more. Final score, today: 8-4 for BVG, but these teams are almost certainly headed for one another in the playoff round, so we can look forward to a chance for redemption later. See photos!
Our Senior Prep Girls’ Basketball Team continued their undefeated OSBA season on Thursday, beating Southwest Academy 86-58. The team came alive in the second half with Jadaia Reid leading the defensive energy and Justiece Miller shooting the lights out. Aaliyah Edwards continued to show her outstanding game sense with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Our next home game is Thursday at 4:00 pm versus Father John Redmond.
On Jan. 23rd the U14 swim team proudly represented Crestwood at the PANAM centre. All our athletes beat their time and showed a great deal of improvement.
On Wednesday, the junior girls volleyball team traveled to King City to face off against The Country Day School. The girls started off the game strong with a score of 25-7 in the first set. Amazing serves from Ella Lee O’Rourke, Abby Mintz, Abigail Mcfarlane, sets from Chiara Codron, followed by great saves from Isabelle Rigby and Taige Matosas-Adderley led the way for the girls to pull ahead in points early on. Crucial blocks from Bryn Wensley and strong hits from Taylor Howell propelled the girls further. Every time team synergy or play wavered, the girls bounced back quickly and corrected. The learning opportunity with Anet was particularly important. They continued to win both of the following sets with scores of 25-14, and 25-16 respectively. Great work ladies!
This week, the U14 Girls Volleyball team travelled to Montcrest School for their second tri-meet of the season to face two teams with a lot of skill.
In the first game against Pickering College, we tried as best as we could, but lost it in two sets. In our second game against Montcrest, we took it to three matches, but lost in the third match.
Shout outs are due to Chantelle Stuart for her confidence and leadership on the court, Beatrice Park for some excellent passes from the back of the court and Andrianna Ellinidis for her strong passes and positive energy which helped to keep us going.
The Varsity Girl’s Hockey team were back in action against The Country Day School on Jan. 23rd. The two teams battled hard and were scoreless for the first 10 minutes until Alana Burgess started the momentum with a nice breakaway goal. As the game progressed our girls passed the puck around effortlessly and created lots of scoring opportunities for themselves. With a final score of 6-2, the team extends their win streak to 5 and has sole possession of first place.
Honourable mentions go out to the dynamic duo of Neely Van Volsen and Karianne Engelbert who showed off their chemistry on the ice, both scoring a goal, as well as Abigayle Poitras for her patience in the offensive zone and bottle-popping goal.
Next week the action continues as the girls play a rematch against The Country Day School on Monday in King City, then on Wednesday they travel to Buffalo for their big exhibition game against Nichols School.
