On Wednesday afternoon, the U-14 curling team travelled to The Thornhill Club for the Page 1-2 Playoff game against the Bayview Glen-A team. This was the only team that had beat Crestwood all year long, and they proved similarly tough opponents this time. Our team struggled on unfamiliar ice and Bayview Glen took full advantage.
With the loss, Crestwood falls into the semifinal game against the Bayview Glen-B team, who upset Toronto Montessori School in the Page 3-4 Playoff game. If we win the semifinal, we earn a rematch against Bayview Glen-A next Friday.
The Crestwood Division 1 curling team travelled to Thornhill Club on Wednesday for a do-or-die playoff match up against the squad from St. Michael’s College. Skip Will Dennison went in to the game with the goal of extending his Crestwood curling career by at least one more game. Sadly, despite calling a strong game and making some great shots on unfamiliar ice, the boys were unable to overcome a surging St. Mike’s squad. The loss marks the end of the Division 1 team’s season, and the end of a storied six-year curling career for skip Will Dennison. Thank you for a great season, and we will see most of you back on the ice next fall.
The Varsity Swim Team finished their season strong yesterday, with fast swims by all 5 swimmers. Megan Pearlman earned two silver medals and a 5th place ribbon, and also qualified for OFSAA, taking place in Toronto in March. Matthew Laslop, who was recovering from the flu, still swam amazingly and placed 2nd in his 200 IM and 6th in his 100 IM. Vitaliy Feoktistov went personal best times in his 100 IM and 100 Free, only missing the OFSAA qualifying time by a second. Thomas Ellindis’s rookie season finished well, with another personal best in his 100 Free. Finally, Josh Deng dropped another 3 seconds in his 100 Free, placing 15th. Thanks for the great season, swimmers! We will see you on Monday for our last practice!
Yesterday the Jr. Girls Volleyball team travelled to Trafalgar Castle to play their final regular season game. The competition was fierce as the teams were evenly matched! Despite great plays, amazing blocks and fantastic digs it came down to a nail biting 5th and final set. It was a tussle for domination as each team matched the other point for point. Our strong serves from Chiara Codron, and Abby Mintz put points on the board. The blocks from Brynn Wensly, strong hits from Ella Lee O’Rourke Taylor Howell helped get us some important side outs. Not to mention the remarkable digs from Abigail MacFarlane and Taige Matosas-Adderley when it mattered most. Unfortunately Trafalgar scored the last 2 points winning the game.
Coaches Podlovics, Belanger and Ly couldn’t be prouder of our girls and their amazing team spirit. Come out to home game Monday as we begin playoffs.
