The Crestwood Prep Junior Lions roared to their second straight Kawartha Classic championship over the weekend. The Junior Boys Basketball team battled the weather and four tough teams on their way to the trophy.
The Lions defeated St. Stephens and St. Mary in back to back day one games. Mikkel Tyne was named our MVP of Day 1 for his tremendous performance on both ends of the court. On Saturday, the Lions broke 100 points on their way to defeating Centennial in the semi-finals. In the finals, the Junior Boys faced Pickering High School. The Lions blew open the game in 2nd quarter on their way to an 87-44 victory and a second straight championship.
Matai Baptiste was name the “Monster of the Final” for his huge double-double perfomance in the championship game. Kailon Nicholls was named a tournament all-star for his fine play all weekend. The boys would like to thank their parents who came all the way to Peterborough to support them!
The Lions now set their sites on two more championships: CISAA and the National Junior Circuit.
On Monday February 11, the Junior Girls Volleyball team faced off against the York school. We learned a lot in this game against a skilled opponent.
The girls put up a strong fight with the other team, with moments of stellar teamwork, amazing tips from Ella Okubasu, and great serves from Ella Lee-O’ Rourke. Unfortunately, despite these efforts we came up short and lost three sets to the York School.
Shout outs also go to Isabella Rigny, Taylor Howell and Abby Mintz for their immense positive energy on the court. Next Wednesday, the Junior girls take on Trafalgar Castle School.
On February 10, your Varsity Girls Hockey cruised to another victory beating BSS 3-1. They started the scoring with a top-shelf beauty by Alana Burgess, then Captain Peyton Van Volsen followed up with a slapper that beat the steady netminder of BSS. The girls finished up the scoring with a handy tip in front of the net by Jenna Smellie. Shout out to Mya Luciforo for some huge saves late in the third to maintain the comfortable win. This wraps up the girls’ regular season.
The U-14 Curling team travelled to The Donalda Club Wednesday afternoon to play an exhibition game against the team from Wychwood Academy. All members of the team played well as we worked on particular shots, preparing for next week’s playoff game. It was also fun to meet a new team from outside our division. In the end, Crestwood earned an easy 8-3 win and will head into the U-14 playoffs ranked #2 and looking to bring home a banner!
The Senior Girls Volleyball team played a competitive match on Wednesday, against Hawthorn, one of the top teams. CPC played well with many rallies but ultimately fell short in straight sets. Special mention goes to Faith Joseph, Maya Berger and Zakayla Day-Burrell for their incredible momentum changing blocks!
