Sports and Clubs Update

End of season games and OFSAA qualifiers. It was an exciting week in sports!

Varsity Swimming

On Wednesday, the Varsity Swim Team had a fantastic meet at the CISAA Championship at U of T. With over half of the swims being best times, our swimmers proved they were competition in the water.

Our swim of the day goes to our Open Boys Medley Relay Team, consisting of Matti MacLachlan, Andrew Gdanski, Justin Lim, and Joseph Zuckerman. They smashed their previous time from Brock University, dropping a full four seconds. The boys qualified for the OFSAA Championship in Windsor with this swim, and earned themselves a silver medal. Great job boys!

We also had two swimmers individually qualify for OFSAA. Matti MacLachlan performed season best times in his 100 Free and 100 back, earning himself 3rd and 1st place. Justin Lim crushed his previous times with CPC, winning his 100 Fly and placing 2nd in his100 IM.

Special recognition goes to Sarah Douey for winning a silver medal in her 50 back and placing 5th in her 100 free, Audrey Melkovmov for a 6th place finish in her 200IM, and Alexa Gibson for placing 5th in her 50 free.

Congratulations to all swimmers. It was an exciting meet, a fun day, and a tremendous season!

U14 Hockey

On Wednesday the U-14 Hockey Team travelled to Appleby College to finish off their regular season and came out with a victory. Aaron Little led the team with 4 goals and 1 assist and Alexa Gibson played another great game in net to give us the 6-5 win. The team now awaits for the rest of the league to finish off their final games to determine if the team heads to the playoffs. Great play all season long by everyone, especially the Grade 8’s; Aaron Little, Jordan Sigel, Jacob Hanning, Aidan Kay, Adam Bounsall, Vanessa Kozik, Peter Keane and James Gilday. Coaches T, V and Katz thank you for a great season.

Senior Basketball

On Thursday afternoon the Senior Boys Basketball team travelled to DeLaSalle for their last regular season game. This game being a must win the boys knew the importance of it and came out strong and played a very consistent offensive and defensive game . Strong play by Sultan Salih, Ahmed izzeldin. Tristan Lim, Matt Cohen, Josh Zweig  Anthony Audette, Matthew Hirshberg, Matthew Gionnas and Ted Kang. The boys came out on top 50-43. Congratulations on the great game. The boys are looking forward to some good news over the next couple of days regarding the playoffs.

Chess

Members of Crestwood’s Chess Club made chess part of their holiday plans this long weekend, as they travelled to St. Matthias Catholic School in North York to participate in the Junior Grand Prix tournament. This tournament saw over 100 players from the ages of 6-17 compete for qualification spots at the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.

Our team of Sean McNamara, Russell Kaufman, Aaron Greenspan and Daven Siu were participating in the tournament to update their chess ratings and earn valuable tournament experience ahead of the provincial high school championships this spring.

Sean was our top player on the day, earning two wins and coming very close to a third, which would have qualified him for the national championships.

Reach For The Top

Crestwood’s interschool Reach for the Top teams continued league play Thursday afternoon at Senator O’Connor Catholic School.

Our junior team, captained by Spencer Arshinoff, continued their undefeated league season with wins over Loretto Abbey and Brebeuf College.

Crestwood’s senior team, captained yesterday by Daven Siu, who was filling in for the ill Abhishek Chandaria, recovered from a first-game loss to Brebeuf College to defeat Loretto Abbey 220-160 in their second game.

League play continues next week. Great job team!
