Remembrance Day, we thought we would share some very special news with all of you. When you are outside the school, take a look at the Canadian flag flying in front of the school. The flag that flies over Crestwood today is one with a very important story.
Thanks to an amazing gift from 102-year old Canadian veteran Norm Cash, Crestwood is lucky enough to fly a flag that comes all the way to us from Vimy Ridge in France. The flag flew over the Vimy Monument in 2017 on the 100th anniversary of that battle. The battle of Vimy Ridge is one of the most significant military engagements in Canadian history, and many historians argue that Canada’s victory on that battlefield represented the birth of Canada as an independent nation. Thank you Mr. Cash for this remarkable gift.
The Vimy flag will remain flying this week, and was lowered to half-mast on Thursday to show respect for all of Canada’s veterans as part of our Remembrance Day ceremony. To show respect individually, we encouraged all Crestwood students to wear a poppy this week. Poppies were available in the front office.
