Dear Parents,

February was a short, but busy, month at Crestwood! We started the month celebrating the Lunar New Year. Students came dressed in red to bring good luck for the Year of the Tiger. We also kicked off our MS Read-a-thon fundraiser with a virtual assembly. Students were asked to read as much as they can this month, while also fundraising to help support Canadians living with MS. We have currently raised over $2,200 and the website will still be collecting donations until Monday, February 28th. We also had a very successful Hot Chocolate and Cookie fundraiser last week, which you can read more about in the newsletter.

As well, in anticipation of Pink Shirt Day, we began a Kindness Campaign this month. Students were encouraged to write notes of kindness or appreciation to their fellow students and teachers.  Over the course of a week, more than 300 kindness cards were delivered to students and teachers. Check out the picture of our Kindness Rainbow, with just some of the cards that were received. To end off our Kindness Campaign we had a virtual assembly for Pink Shirt Day. Junior students learned about the origins of Pink Shirt Day, and took a closer look at cyberbullying and how they can keep themselves safe when communicating online. Primary students also took part in an online assembly, focusing on kindness, inclusion, and speaking up if bullying occurs. Many thanks to the Grade 3 students who contributed their words of advice to this assembly.

The weather has certainly been challenging this month, with lots of icy conditions. Please remember to continue to dress your child for the weather each day, so they are always prepared for outdoor play.

We have just two more weeks before March break; we can’t believe how quickly time is flying by! The introduction of intramural basketball for Grades 3-6 has been met with great enthusiasm! Thanks to all the teachers who have offered to help out. We love seeing students begin to engage in sports again! Remember to bring running shoes and a water bottle when your class is scheduled to play. Stay tuned for information on upcoming extra-curricular activities that will be starting after the March break.

Wishing you all a safe and healthy weekend!
