Dear Parents,
We have had a “spooktacular” October, ending with an incredible Halloween celebration today. Thank you to Mr. Cooper and the House Heads for organizing a wide variety of fun activities for us. And thank you to the CSPA for providing some extra spooky Halloween decorations for our Haunted House! A special shoutout to all classes who participated in the door decorating contest – our doors have never looked so festive! It really helped all of us get into the Halloween spirit!
In the Primary Division, students have been showing what good friends they can be! The teachers have been so impressed by the caring and inclusive actions they have seen on the playground and in the classroom. Recesses are even more fun when your child comes to school prepared for the variable October weather. We will still be going outside in cold or wet weather, so please send your child with rainboots, a rain jacket, a hat, and mittens.
In the Junior Division, we have been discussing respectful and caring communication strategies. Students interviewed their peers to learn more about their traditions and values and practiced active listening skills. We also looked at rumours and gossip as a hindrance to showing care and concern for others. Students used role play to practice different ways to respond to hearing a rumour or a piece of gossip, while showing respect to the person talking, and the person being talked about. Our goal is to make Crestwood a gossip free community as a way to show our peers we care about each other.
On Monday, the Grade 6 students had a wonderful virtual visit from a few of our graduates who are now Grade 7 students at the Upper School. It was such a treat to hear about their experiences transitioning to Crestwood Prep and our Grade 6 students asked excellent questions to learn more about what life is like in Grade 7!
Thank you for your cooperation with pickup at the end of the day. Having parents arrive in the designated time slots has made our student pick up process a much smoother experience for all. A reminder for morning drop-off, to please make sure you are pulling up as far as you can to make room for cars behind you.
We look forward to beginning the month of November with the Scholastic Book Fair! Next week, students will have a chance to walk through and then shop for lots of great new books, and their purchases will go towards contributing to our school library and author visits.
As we head into November, we want to remind all students to come dressed prepared for the weather. We want to make sure students can feel comfortable outside for recess and gym classes, so dig out those winter coats, mitts, and toques!
Wishing all of you a safe and spooky Halloween weekend!
