On this coming Wednesday, February 24th, Crestwood will be joining other students across Canada and around the world to show their support for PINK SHIRT DAY!
This spirit day for the whole school demonstrates our support the anti-bullying campaign and our pledge to eliminate bullying, not only in Canada, but also worldwide.
Instead of just wearing pink shirts however, our Crestwood challenge will be to wear as much pink clothing as you can. (That means the colour pink not the brand).
PINK SHIRT DAY originated from the strength of courage of two boys from Nova Scotia. They decided they needed to stand up for a Grade 9 boy who was new to their school and was being bullied. He was being bullied because he decided to wear a pink shirt to school.
The two friends went to the store and bought 50 pink tank tops and had their friends wear them at school. When the boy who was being bullied walked in and saw the support he was receiving, he looked as though a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. The bullies never bothered the new student again.
It was such a fantastic thing these boys did, that now, every year, more and more people show their support against bullying by holding special event days and by wearing pink shirts.
To be clear that this IS NOT a grub day or an excuse to wear any grub clothes that are not pink in colour. Support can be shown by wearing pink clothing, (pants, shirts, hats, socks, shoes, etc) or if you don’t have anything pink you can show support by wearing your proper Crestwood Uniform.
Join Crestwood School in celebrating the courage of the boys who began this amazing event, and the world wide campaign to stop bullying. Wear pink on February 24th!
Remember: Bullying IS NOT okay, no matter when, where or how it happens.
