Albert Liddle was born October 1, 1933 in Toronto, Ontario, later moving to nearby Woodbridge. He grew up against the backdrop of the Great Depression and then World War Two. Albert recalls the impacts of the Depression, which were tough on his family; he remembers being less impacted by the war, even with his older brother off fighting for the USAF. As a child he did what he could to support the troops, bringing in donations and following the rationing guidelines. He also joined the cadets and developed an interest in drumming. That would take Albert into several military bands, and he would compete in Canada and the United States, especially during the Cold War years, where he kept a spirit of military pride and martial music alive. Albert Liddle was interviewed at the Sunnybrook Veterans’ Wing in August 2022.
