Dear Parents,
In celebration of the upcoming holiday season, Crestwood Cares, with the help of the Crestwood School Community, plans to begin to forge a relationship with an Indigenous community located in northern Ontario. With this goal in mind, Canadian Feed the Children and a Crestwood parent helped us to establish a connection with the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, also known as the community of Neyaashiinigmiing. Families within this community of approximately 250 residents are challenged by socio-economic barriers including low incomes, high unemployment and difficulty accessing nutritious food at a reasonable cost.
Through the Canadian Feed the Children representative within the community, Crestwood Cares understands that at this time we can provide the most assistance by donating items for holiday care packages for the seniors of the community. We ask that Crestwood families support us in this endeavour. We encourage families to donate some items from the list on the reverse and/or Walmart or Visa/Mastercard gift cards. With gift cards, we will purchase winter coats and boots for the seniors in need within the community.
Crestwood Cares asks that all Crestwood families join us in helping to share our community’s good fortune with others. Please bring your new and unwrapped contributions to your child’s homeroom classes before December 13th. They will be collected and organized each day by our Community Service Committee. All gifts will be delivered to the Neyaashiinigmiing community by Crestwood Cares before December 18th. Thank you very much for helping to make this holiday season a happy one for others.
Sincerely,
Patti Hektor for Crestwood Cares
