Did you know that students are required to obtain a minimum of 40 hours of community service in order to graduate from high school? Many students wait until their graduating year, making it a stressful time to find opportunities to volunteer. So, why not get started early?
ChangeTheWorld is a youth volunteering campaign created by the Government of Ontario that encourages high school students ages 14-18 to volunteer for three hours or more between April 12 and May 24. Students who volunteer during these six weeks will receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade. The Guidance Department has been encouraging students to volunteer, and most recently signed up over 20 Crestwood students to help out with the upcoming Sporting Life 10k. Getting involved has never been easier!
Volunteer Toronto is a great online tool for finding opportunities all over the city, and students can volunteer for long or short term positions. Students are encouraged to help out in their community as a means to get involved, and to become better citizens. Students interested in receiving a certificate for their involvement in ChangeTheWorld are encouraged to check out the website or see Guidance for more information!
