It was a stellar week for the Crestwood Lions this week who dominated in every event!
Curling
The Crestwood Open Curling Team traveled to Leaside Memorial Gardens for a match against the team from Crescent. The team got off to a rocky start, falling behind 5-0 after the first three ends. However, after changing their strategy at the midway point, the team stormed back, taking 1 in the 4th end, stealing 2 in the 5th end, and finishing the game off with a big steal of 3 in the 6th end to cap off the comeback. Final score- Crestwood 6- Crescent 5. Congrats to Will Dennison for consistently setting perfect guards, Aaron Greenspan for his determined sweeping, Bowen Ouyang for his critical late shots, and skip Daven Siu for securing the comeback with a combination of great shots and great strategy.
Basketball
Our Jr. boys basketball team went up against a very good Cresent School. After a slow start, the Lions began to take over the game with their ferocious defense, and tremendous speed in transition to bring home the victory. The Lions were led by K’shawn Latty and Jonas Weissland in a game that saw great team play from all the members. Special shouts out to Noah Lerner and Jacob Newman who were great from the 3 point line.
The U-14 Boys Basketball team traveled to Crescent to play in their first game of the new year The boys had a tough first quarter but with great ball control from Jaden Langley Thomas and Elijah Fisher the boys took a lead and never looked back. Jaden drained 34 pts, Jesse Codron played a strong defensive game, and Shaan Kapur and James Gillingham with a great effort on both ends of the court. The boys pulled out a big win remaining undefeated going into their next game.
The U-14 Crestwood Lions also traveled to St. Mikes for a much-anticipated game against the Kerry Blues. The crowd was definitely not in our favor and they let us know it. But as Lions do, they silenced the crowd with their fierce determination and strong play. Elijah Fisher and Jaden Langley Thomas contributed with a strong performance scoring 34 points respectively, Jesse Codron played a very strong game on the boards, and Ethan Gazer brought his tenacious defense, scoring his first basket of the season. Special mention must go out to James Gillingham, Liam Macinnis and Shaan Kapur for their strong play as well. The team dedicated this win to our headmaster Mr. P, and remain undefeated as they go into their next game on Monday.
Your Senior Crestwood Lions had a huge victory over UCC, making it a clean sweep for all three boys basketball teams. Final score was CPC 69, UCC 39. Shout outs to Dusan Prelo for his game dunk, Kabier Izzeldin for a huge defensive game, and Emre Demirsu who is our team’s leading rebounder at the 5’9″.
Volleyball
Congratulations to the Senior Girls Volleyball team on their win at Hawthorn. The girls started off strong with powerful serves by Rachel Pape and an overall stellar team performance. The team remained in the lead for all three sets and had continuous spikes and volleys. Catch these girls in action next Thursday for Spirit week as they battle The York School in what will be another exciting game. Ms. Wills and Dr. K are very proud, keep up the great work girls! Go Lions Go!
Swimming
The Crestwood U-14 swim team had a great meet yesterday. Andy, Sydney, Alice, Danny and Snow all had time drop in at least one of their events, while Mathew Laslop brought home two 1st place finishes. A special shout out goes to Grace Geng for her first race ever!
The Varsity Swim Team had their first meet of 2017 at the Markham Pan Am Pool, and did CPC proud.Congratulations to Kaitlyn Balter for her 100 Free, and Elizabeth Keane for her 50 Free. Both ladies have had difficulty reaching their personal bests in these events, but posted best times yesterday! Max Dolman and Sam Douey continued to drop time in their events. Both boys are now sitting at 33 seconds for their 50 Free. Grade 9 student, Justin Soberman, dropped an astounding seven seconds in his 50 Breaststroke, clocking in at 47.5 seconds. Swim of the meet goes to Joseph Zuckerman for his 50 Breaststroke. He dropped 1.5 seconds, his time now hovering just above 40 seconds. Great work swimmers!
