Congratulations to all members of the junior track team that competed in the Championship meet that took place on Wednesday, May 25th at York University. It was a glorious day of competition that saw our athletes achieve their personal bests at many of the events. The day kicked off with a 7:30AM departure from our campus. Once we arrived at York, our tent was pitched, shoes tied tight, with our bib numbers pinned to our shirts our spirits were high.
First event of the day was an exciting 1500M race that saw Tadhg, our grade 6 athlete jump out to a quick lead. For most of the race he held the lead. We are so proud of his 5th place finish with a time of 5.49 seconds. He moved on to the next event to qualify for the 80M hurdles, where he placed 6th overall in a field of 49 athletes. His day continued with a 2nd place finish in the 200M. Congratulations to Tadhg on his wonderful accomplishments.
In addition, we would like to highlight Wesley, a grade 4 athlete who also had an incredible day.
Wes finished 1st in the 100M race and qualified for the finals where he again finished 1st with a time of 15.87 seconds. He competed in the 200M race where he placed 2nd in a field of 31 athletes, with a time of 34.83. His day was not over yet, as he once again finished in 1st place with a time of 1.17.17 in the 400M event.
Congratulations to Owen P. with a shot-put throw of 6.50M, 15th place overall.
Well done, Sarah G., with 11th place finish in the 100M with a time of 16.87.
Andrew B. finished 9th overall in his 400M race with a time of 1.16.85 while Jacob Y was not far behind him with his time of 1.26.81.
Our U12 girls, Sarah, Mia, and Jordyn, had a blast at the hurdles, finishing with smiles as they leaped over the 24” hurdles. Shira and Chloe found success at the long jump pit.
Jill and Livy stood in the starters box for the 800M. It was wonderful to see them challenge themselves to run twice around the track.
Jordyn was our solo U12 girls 200M runner and ran a great race from the first blast of the starter’s pistol.
Jill had her best jump of 3.20M at the long jump pit, finishing in 7th place in a field of 63. Wow!
Livy had her personal best at the triple jump pit with a hop, step, and jump…6.40m putting her in 19th in a field of 54 jumpers.
Javelins were flying with some great throws by Jordyn, Chloe, and Livy.
It’s no wonder our U10 boys did so well at the triple jump and long jump pits. Kimi finished 9th
Torres, 16th.
Well done, Jack, your throws put you in the 15th spot for shot put and 23rd place for discus.
Sebastian and Charles competed in the 100M and ran through the finish line with back-to-back times of 18.91 and 18.95 respectively.
Clark finished his hurdle race in 21st spot with his personal best of 18.44 and his triple jump landed him a 20th place finish.
Charlie H. landed in 24th spot at the long jump pit while Shira S. found her groove at the discus throw and the 100M race. Charles M. should consider 18 his lucky as he finished 18th overall in both 80M hurdles and long jump. Amazing!
We hope you are as proud of your results as your coaches are of your commitment, effort, and good sportsmanship. Although it was a shortened season, we feel it was one of our best!
