Community Service Opportunities

Providence Healthcare – Volunteers

  • Providence Healthcare is a health care facility with a focus on providing rehabilitation, palliative care, long-term care and community programs in Toronto (https://www.providence.on.ca/)
  • Providence is looking for volunteers for a variety of different roles:
    • Meal Assistance
      • Enhance the mealtime experience of a patient and/or resident by assisting them with their daily meals
    • Friendly Visiting/Escorting
      • Be a friend to a patient, resident or client who may not have visitors on a regular basis by escorting them to various activities
    • Recreation (Group Activities)
      • Assist with and/or facilitate activities such as games, sing-a-longs, movies, arts and crafts, etc.
    • Spiritual and Religious Care
      • Volunteers escort residents and patients to and from the multi-denominational church services and weekly hymn sing. Other specialized positions are also available.
    • Patient Satisfaction Surveys
      • Visit with patients prior to discharge and find out what they thought of their stay here at Providence
  • Providence Care also offers a Summer Volunteer Program:
    • The Summer Youth Program (SYP) is a popular choice for students
    • This program allows students to enhance various work-related skills, develop leadership qualities, complete the volunteer hours needed for school and build meaningful relationships while making a difference in the community
    • The experience is also very rewarding for our residents, patients and clients
    • Students 14-25 years of age, still attending school, may apply for the Summer Youth Program
    • Summer Youth applicants must complete the application process prior to starting their volunteer placement

Youth Assisting Youth – Volunteers

  • Do you want to make a difference in someone’s life? Want to be a positive role model and mentor?  Then become a volunteer with Youth Assisting Youth (https://youthassistingyouth.com/)
  • Youth Assisting Youth (The Peer Project) is a not-for-profit organization that gives youth an opportunity to volunteer in their community. Youth Assisting Youth is looking for young adults (age 16+) to be positive role models to help at-risk and newcomer kids aged 6-15 to reach their full potential
  • Volunteer Responsibilities:
    • Be a positive role model
    • Bond with youth while engaging in social or academic activities
    • Must commit to 3 hours a week with the youth
    • Each volunteer will be paired with a youth. The youth paired with  you will be selected based on similar hobbies and interests to you and will also live nearby to your location
