You may have noticed that the main foyer at Crestwood has a new visitor. I would like to introduce you to our very own Lovebot!
The Lovebot movement is a community art project whose purpose is to, “inspire love and kindness” according to its Web site, http://lovebot.com/pages/about. Lovebots were conceived of by Matthew Del Degan, former Crestwood student and founder of The Sandbox Society, a creative non-profit organization, and the Lovebots were cast using molds created by our very own Chris Dunn. They were placed all over the city to remind us that “even though many of us work like robots in tech-driven, concrete jungles, we all have the capacity to share love and kindness with one another each day”.
Now the movement has grown to involve a network of volunteers who are placing Lovebot stickers, posters and themed messages all across Toronto. Del Degan manages the Lovebot phenomenon, which now includes a line of t-shirts, themed LEGO packs and an active Twitter account, all devoted to furthering the cause of generosity and kindness. His work has been featured on CBC, CTV and Global television and written about extensively in other media outlets. Check out the Lovebot Instagram account at https://instagram.com/lovebottherobot/.
The Lovebot reminds us that Crestwood was created as a model for how caring and kindness can change the lives of individual students. Matthew Del Degan and Chris Dunn are challenging us to live out these priorities in our lives, something which we will be now be prompted towards every time we walk through the main foyer.
