Dear Parents and Friends of Crestwood Preparatory College,
This afternoon, Premier Ford and Education Minister Lecce announced that public schools will remain closed until May 4, 2020, at a minimum, as a public health measure.
In addition, the Ministry of Education indicated that the approach in the weeks ahead will be flexible. However, they also highlighted that the assessment and evaluation of students will continue even while they are learning remotely. They assured Ontario public school parents that students will be able to successfully complete the school year, using this modified approach, whether or not students are able to return to school before the end of the school year. They also announced that final report cards will be issued for all Ontario public school students. It is expected that more specific details and direction will soon be available from the Ministry of Education, both for public schools and then, in turn, for private schools.
Although this extended school closure, as per the Education Act, applies only to public schools, it signals the approach the provincial government will take for private schools and child care centres. In the memo, the Ontario government specifies:
It is expected that private and independent schools, will be ordered to remain closed for the duration of the public school closures.
