On Friday, May 25th, the Grade 5 students traveled to Milton to explore Crawford Lake and its Wendat village. The students enjoyed their hike around the lake, and learning about the lake’s unique qualities and exploring the natural resources around the lake which would have been used by First Nations inhabitants. After lunch, students got to participate in some traditional Wendat games such as Lacrosse and “Sticks”. The highlight of the trip was seeing the Wendat longhouses, and all of the furs and tools used before the time of European contact. Students were amazed at the different artifacts and learned a lot about the First Nations way of life. It was a wonderful experience, and a great way to bring our Social Studies curriculum to life!
