This past Tuesday, Crestwood’s Oral History Project was on display at the Ontario Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation’s All-Staff Gathering and Circle of Honour Awards. The theme of the day was “Storytelling”, and Mr. Masters and Mr. Hawkins were invited to tell the story of Crestwood’s Oral History Project. A short video on the history of Crestwood’s Oral History Project, and a brief presentation on future plans and directions for the project were shared with the entire ministry staff, including Minister David Zimmer. The presentation was extremely well received, and important contacts were made. To be invited to speak at an event of this nature was a great honour, and shows just how respected the Crestwood Oral History project is by the community at large. Furthermore, this was a fitting end to the 2016-2017 school year for the Social Studies Department, which has committed itself to the national goal of reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous population.
