The Varsity Track and Field team competed in Day 1 of the CISAA Championships. Congratulations to Josh Haughton, who continued his winning streak with a victory in the High Jump. Zakayla Day placed 4th overall in the 100m dash, and Darren Biosah placed 6th overall in the 100m dash. Good luck to all of our athletes as they compete in Day 2 of the meet in Oshawa.
The Varsity Track and Field team represented Crestwood during Day 2 of the CISAA Championships. Everyone did a fantastic job! Special mention goes to: Josh Haughton, for winning gold in triple jump and silver in long jump. Alexa Gibson, for winning silver in javelin. Zakalya Day-Burrell for winning her 200m preliminary heat and placing 4th overall. Derek Boecker for placing 7th overall in long jump, with over 40 competitors. Josh, Alexa and Zakayla have all qualified to move onto Metros. Make sure to congratulate them! Again, wonderful season to all of the members of the Varsity Track and Field team!
Rugby
The senior boys rugby team traveled to Country Day School to play CDS and HTS. We walked away with 1 win and 1 loss.. Tries were scored by Braden Harris, Cole Morrison, Ty Ellis, Aren Karshafian, Charlie West, and John Mainprize.
The Junior Boys Rugby Team traveled to Cherry Beach for three exciting matches. The boys showed good teamwork and determination, which resulted in multiple tries, hard tackles, and great ball possession. Captain Jonas Weissland scored an incredible eight tries throughout the day, highlighting his speed and agility. Rhys Malisch scored one try each match, and slowed the other teams down by his incredible defense. Scrum Half, Callum Braund, was a key player. He tackled, passed, dove, and ran with precession, allowing CPC to score. Congratulations to the whole team for a great day. A special thank you goes out to Coach Frigerio for leading the boys through their warm up and team cheers.
The U-14 boys played 3 hard matches at Country Day, walking away with a tie and 2 losses. All the boys played very well and have progressed greatly from their first days on the pitch, making massive tackles and full field runs to put the ball down for tries. Aiden Takes was able to put the team on his back and control the play, chasing, scoring and taking down some of the biggest opponents all on his own. Aeden Fogarty also played unreal, making two game-saving hits and keeping the ball alive in contact. Other notable performances from Liam Macinnis and Jaden Zelyuk for their fitness and smart play.
Slo Pitch
The Senior Boys Slo-Pitch team traveled to Bond Park to play Bayview Glen’s squad. While the conditions were less than ideal, the Crestwood boys came ready to play. Noah Aaron got the game started with a 2 run inside the park homerun in the top of the first, and big hits were provided by Jonah Patel and Andrew Haynes. Sadly, Bayview Glen was able to withstand Crestwood’s hit parade- and responded with their own in kind. In the end, BVG was victorious- defeating the Crestwood squad 12-11 in a nail-biter. The Boys will be back in action tomorrow after school at Fenside Park. Come out and cheer the boys on to victory after school.
The Lions were at the friendly confines of Fenside Park for a rematch against the squad from Lakefield. Crestwood got off to a ridiculous start- 6 home runs in a row. For those keeping track at home, that is back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back dingers. Lakefield responded with some dingers of their own, and before long the score looked more like a football game than a softball game. Sadly, at the end of the slugfest, Crestwood came up just a little short- final score Lakefield 21 – Crestwood 19.
After being rained out of both their games last week, the U14 Boys Softball team was back on the field for their second game of the season. Taking on a very tough first place team from Sterling Hall, the boys got behind early by a big margin, as walks came back to bite the team defensively. However, the boys made a major comeback, and were able to finally take the lead @ 18-15 going into the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, fate was not on their side, and Sterling Hall was able to pull back ahead in the final inning, winning a thrilling game by a score of 19-18. Special mention goes out to Jesse Codron, Ethan Gazer, and Alex Korda, each of whom played great games offensively and in the field. Despite the narrow loss, the game was nevertheless an encouraging result as the team prepares for the playoffs.
Soccer
The U14 Girls soccer team traveled to Trinity College Monday afternoon for its opening game of the season. Despite only having one sub and losing one of its starters to injury, the girls played valiantly and managed to score one goal, courtesy of Ella Rival, in a 5-1 loss to the home team. Honorable mentions go to the entire team, with particular shout-outs to Kate Harding, Maddie Milberg, and Monica Alsschuler, who saved a penalty shot during the game.
Congratulations to the Senior Girls Soccer Team on their win against Lakefield College School. A big thank you to Sydney Steiman for stepping up and going in net when our star goalie Alexa got hurt. The girls played a great game and managed to secure second place in the league. A very special mention goes out to Tiana Bailey for a fantastic game.
Badminton
The Lions’ Badminton teams played host to the Hillfield Trojans. The senior boys took the match up 5 sets to none, but unfortunately, the senior girls and junior boys fell to the Trojans after some hard fought matches. Coaches Doherty, Young and Wan would like to commend everybody for their resiliency and sportsmanship.
