It was a big week for the Crestwood Lions as the winter season comes to an end and playoffs begin. Take a look at some of the stellar results in this week’s matchups.
Swimming
The Varsity Swim Team had a fantastic meet at U of T this week. Best times were seen across all age and gender divisions!
Special congratulations go out to the two Open Boys Relay Teams, consisting of Justin Lim, Michael Lim, Mohamed Basha, Joseph Zuckerman, and Armin Selzner. They earned a 2nd and 3rd place finish, and also qualified for OFSAA!
Justin, Michael, Mohamed, and Megan Pearlman also qualified for OFSAA in their individual events. These swimmers will be representing CPC in Windsor in March.
Marina Nevison and Sarah Douey also put points on the board, with top-10 finishes in multiple events.
Overall, it was a day full of fast swimming, good teamwork, and focused determination. Congratulations to all swimmers!
Hockey
The U-14 Hockey Team traveled to De La Salle and picked up another win, defeating a strong DLS team 7-3. With that victory, the team was able to finish the season with an undefeated record of 9-0. The team played well but fell in love with the penalty box once again, but were able to overcome this obstacle and play a well-balanced game. Roy Pejcinovski once again had another great game in goal. Unsung heros, Mateo Rocha, Adam Grunberg and Josh Moozar stepped up to the challenge and recorded their first goals of the season. Great game once again, your coaching staff is very proud of you!
The U-14 Hockey Team continued in their winning ways by defeating Villanova College, 5-1. With that victory, the team was able to clinch 1st place overall and be the #1 seed in next week’s Final Four Championship. The team came out flying right from the start and never looked back. The played very well on both sides of the puck lead by Roy Pejcinovski, with another solid game in net, Sam Li and Bradley Parker on the offensive end and Jake Katz and Peter Hull on the defensive end. Your coaching staff is extremely proud of you.
The Varsity Boys hockey team fell short this week, losing 9-4 against a talented squad from Greenwood. Crestwood played with a lot of heart and a short bench due to injury, with some players who stepped up, playing through injury and illness. Peter Keane and Cole Morrison were goal scorers, but potentially the greatest goal scored in the history of Crestwood hockey goes to Mr. Alexander Mcleod, with a huge celly, he potted his first of the year.
Basketball
The U-14 boys played their final game of the season. The game went back and forth as both teams were exchanging baskets. Ultimately the boys work ethic and skill was too much of a match. Under the leadership of Elijah Fisher, Jaden Langley Thomas, and Jesse ” Rodman ” Codron, the boys defeated BVG and are looking forward to put on a good performance next week in their final four tournament in Hamilton. Coaches Lyons and Pagano are extremely proud of the boys and look forward to bringing home a banner to hang in the den.
The U-14 Boys Basketball team also played Upper Canada College in the Lion’s den. The game got off to a great start with great ball control from Jaden Langley Thomas and Elijah Fisher. The boys never looked back as they took a commanding lead and beat UCC 71-53. Special mention must go out to Jesse Codron, Ethan Gazer, Jaden Zelnyk, and last but not least the hot shooting from Caiden Oshinowo draining 20 pts.
Our Jr. Boys basketball team travelled out to St. Catherine’s to take on Ridley College. Our boys came out the gate very aggressive defensively; this led to a big lead early in the first quarter. Behind Tahron Allen’s phenomenal defense and K’Shawn Latty’s hot shooting, the Lions never looked back and went on to win by a score of 75-24.
Curling
Crestwood’s U-14 boys took to the ice in their final regular season match of the year. Facing off against a skilled team from TMS, Crestwood quickly fell to 2-0 after two ends. However, two huge ends – featuring clutch shots from all team members – transformed the game instantly, and after 4 ends, Crestwood was up 6-2. TMS tried to rally back, but Crestwood held them off. Final score- Crestwood 6- TMS 5.
The U-14 team, and Crestwood’s varsity boys teams, have both advanced to the playoffs next Tuesday at Toronto Cricket Club. Congratulations curlers on a great regular season!
Volleyball
The Senior Girls Volleyball team beat Rosseau Lake College in straight sets to solidify third place in the CISAA standings. It was a complete team effort highlighted by great serves from Julia Lee and fantastic net play by Willa Easton and Sydney Steiman. Great job ladies!
