It was another week of sweeping victories for the Crestwood Lions as our winter sports teams continued to dominate at games both at home and across the city.
Basketball
The Under 14 Boys Basketball team traveled to St. Andrews College and what a team effort it was. Under the leadership of Elijah Fisher and Jaden Langley Thomas the boys had great ball movement, and excellent defensive play. James Gillingham had a great game on both ends of the court, Shaan Kapur draining a three pointer from distance, Tommy Li, Jesse Codron , and Ethan Gazer controlling the boards, excellent hustle by Liam Mcginnis, and Ben Harr, and last but not least, the hot shooting from Caiden Oshinowo. The boys look forward to continuing their undefeated streak next week here at home against UCC.
Our Jr. Lions took to the floor against an impressive UCC team. UCC came out very strong draining several threes, but as the game went on the Lions intensity on defense started to wear them down. The Lions came out victorious with a score of 52-34. Shout out to Matthew Nelsons who threw down 2 massive dunks. Our Jr. Lions also travelled to Greenwood College this where they continued their impressive play. As usual, they came out sluggish but picked up by the second quarter. The Lions were led by another strong performance by Matthew Nelsons. The final score was Crestwood 76- Greenwood 61
The Senior Boys Basketball team certainly did not disappoint in our Spirit Week game! The boys defeated Greenwood with a crushing score of 109-53. Leading scorer was Jahcobi Neath, followed by Josh Haughton. Thanks to the CPC audience for cheering the boys on and the Parent’s Association for donating the popcorn!
Your Crestwood Senior Lions had a huge win over Crescent beating them 73-46. Crestwood played a strong game making it very difficult for Crescent to even inbound the ball. Leading scorer Jahcobi Neath had 26 points. Defensive player of the game was Emre Demirsu and Kabier Izzeldin. The 6th man award goes to Aren Karshafian for his high energy, strong defense and offensive additions. Great job Crestwood!
Hockey
The U-14 Hockey team continued with their winning ways last night by defeating Appleby College and improving their record to an impressive 5-0-0. The team took to the ice without their starting goalie, Roy Pejcinovski, and play a very solid game in front of Evan Senior, who stepped up to the challenge of playing goal and put on a great performance for never playing goal before. The team played from behind for most of the game until we were able to score 3 un-answered goals and come back to win the game 7-5. Last night’s game was probably the best the team has played as a collective unit so far this year. Special mentions go out to Evan Senior for his play in goal and to Cole Eichler, Samuel Li and Eric Chen who all had multi-point nights. Congrats on the big win, your coaching staff are very proud of you.
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Hockey team on their first win of the season! The boys were ready to rock with a tiny squad of only 8 players and one all star goaltender on their road trip to Trinity College, who iced an entire 3 line squad. The team pulled off an amazing 7-5 victory, due to incredible back-stopping skills from the impressive Alexa Gibson, who showcased her hot glove and butterfly skills all game. Goal scorers include Cole Morrison with his Bobby Orr-esque flying goal, Aaron-lights-out Little, Sam Mighty-Mintz and Andrew soft-hands-Haynes. Fantastic all around effort from all players
The Varsity Boys Hockey team also traveled to Appleby College, participating in a barn burner of a match. The game was an intense back and forth battle, with some scrappy altercations from the always fiery Cole Morrison and some acts of beautiful hands and fast feet from the always impressive Peter Keane and Andrews Haynes. A total of 17 goals were scored in this matchup, leaving the boys with an 11-6 defeat. Every player worked hard until the final buzzer, their coaches are very proud of the squads perseverance.
The Varsity Boys had back to back games this week, and played at home against Nicolls College. It was a back and forth seesaw battle that ended in a 6-6 tie. It was an exciting game that came right down to the wire. Goal scorers for Crestwood were Cole Morrison, Noah Aaron, Jacob Hanning, Aaron Little, Peter Keane and Chuckie Nogas. On Friday the boys traveled to Lakefield with a limited bench and came out on the short end suffering an 8-3 loss. Goal scorers were Chuckie Nogas with a pair and Aaron Little with one.
Swimming
The Varsity Swim Team had another great meet! Despite having less than a week in between meets, many athletes still managed to swim best times. Congratulations to Audrey Melkoumov, Kaitlyn Balter, Max Dolman, Sam Douey, Sarah Douey, Greg Quon, and Joseph Zuckerman on their personal bests! Special mention goes out to Megan Pearlman for winning her 100 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke, and to Sarah Douey for her second place finish in the 50 Backstroke.
Curling
The open and boys curling teams were in the house yesterday! With some great shots and hard sweeping, the open team had a back and forth match against TMS – ending in a tie after the 6th end. The skips battled it out in a tie breaker shot and resulted in a draw.
Volleyball
Congratulations to the senior girls volleyball on their win against Bayview Glen. The girls played with heart and determination. Good job on securing our third place spot.
