On Saturday, September 14th, seven Crestwood Chess Team players participated in the season-opening Michael McArthur Memorial Chess Tournament. This huge tournament, with over 200 players, brought together a wide range of players from kindergarten students to international grandmasters to honour the memory of Michael McArthur, a well-known Toronto chess coach. Top Crestwood results included: Robert Muresan, Tim Kufner, Kian Torabiardakani and Thomas Li, all of whom scored 3.0 out of 5.0 points, which was good enough for a tie for seventh in their division. Chess Club pre-season matches continue on Tuesdays at lunch in preparation for the Toronto Secondary School Individual Chess Championships, which are being held here at the school on October 4th. Come and talk to Mr. Jull if you would like to join!
