Hockey
Crestwood had the honour of hosting this year’s CISAA U-14 Hockey Championships. Having home ice advantage and a large fan base, the crowd at Fenside saw 2 fantastic games. In the Semi-Finals, CPC won a nail bitter over a strong De La Salle team, beating them 5-4 in overtime, with Cole Eichler scoring the overtime winner. In the Finals, CPC took on Appleby College. Right from the get-go, CPC was able to take the lead and never look back, winning 7-0. The entire coaching staff would like to thank the team for a fantastic season that saw the team go undefeated with an 11-0 record, a very impressive feat. Good luck to those Grade 8’s moving up to play U-16 Hockey next and to those Grade 7’s who get to defend out Championship next year!
Basketball
Pain is temporary, winning is eternal. The Crestwood Jr Boys Basketball team is the 2017 CISAA division 1 champions. After losing to St. Mikes twice in the regular season, the Lions were the clear underdogs going into Saturday’s final. Within the first five minutes, the Lions showed their heart and St. Mikes realized they were in for a dog fight. As the game went on Crestwood slowly took control, while St. Mikes was fighting to close the gap. With minutes left in the 4th quarter St. Mikes threw their final blow, but it wasn’t enough to regain the lead. This championship is a symbol of teamwork and sacrifice. The final score was Crestwood 62 – St. Mikes 57.
The Under 14 Boys Basketball team traveled to Hamilton to play in their final four competition of the season. In the semi final game the boys played against Toronto French School and took control right off the bat. With very strong offensive play from Elijah Fisher, Jaden Langley Thomas, and Caiden Oshinowo the team never looked backed beating TFS 71-56. The season came down to the final game against Hillfield Strathallen College. The game was a nail biter as both teams exchanged bucket after bucket. Emotions were high as both teams put on a great performance. Elijah Fisher got the gym rocking with a spectacular dunk and Jaden Langley Thomas with his superb ball control the team got out to a lead entering the fourth quarter by 1 point. Unfortunately, in the end the score was not in our favour losing in the championship game. Special mention must go out to Elijah Fisher, Jaden Langley Thomas, Ethan Gazer, Jesse Codron for his strong effort, Caiden Oshinowo for his three-point shooting, Jaden Zelyuk, Shaan Kapur, Ben Haar and Liam Mcginnis. Coaches Lyons and Pagano would like to thank all of the boys this year for a very memorable season and look forward to another great season next year.
Swimming
Congratulations to Megan Pearlman, Justin Lim, Michael Lim, Mohamed Basha, Armin Selzner, and Joseph Zuckerman, for a fantastic swim meet in Windsor. These swimmers were representing CPC against the fastest swimmers in Ontario!
Curling
On Friday, Jonah Tessler, Thomas Dale and William MacInnis traveled to East York Curling Club to represent Crestwood in the CISAA U-14 Curling Playoffs. The boys faced Montcrest in the morning, and despite falling behind 5-0 after the first three ends, the boys refused to give up. The boys stole 6 points in the final three ends, and triumphed in their semi-final game.
After a brief break for lunch, the boys were back on the ice against Bayview Glen in the finals. Despite some amazing shots, the boys were unable to pull off their second win of the day, and fell to BVG 7-3. Even with the loss, Jonah, Thomas and William have a great deal to be proud of, and can wear their Silver medals with pride. Congratulations boys on a fantastic season of growth, and we will see you back on the ice next year.
Volleyball
On Saturday, March 4th the Senior Girls volleyball team travelled to Toronto Montessori School for the final four of the CISAA championships to face Albert College. The ladies started strong, winning the first set by playing their best volleyball of the season. Albert College came on strong and won the next three sets in a very close game. Mrs. Williams and Dr. Karisch would like to thank the team for their fantastic season. We showed tremendous growth from the beginning of November to our final game on Saturday. Special mention goes to our senior players, Sydney Steiman and Jessica Weinberg. For our juniors, let’s get them next year!
