Basketball
Our Jr. Boys Basketball team took on Appleby College at home. Our boys came out very strong and continued their stellar play throughout the 4 quarters. The final school was Crestwood 50 – Appleby 37.
The Jr. Boys also participated in the Kawartha Classic which hosted 64 teams from all over Ontario. The boys played extremely hard over the weekend and really showed a champion’s heart. The team won their first three games of the tournament to reach the semi-finals. In the semi’s Crestwood rallied back from a 30 point deficit to come within 13 with 3 minutes to go. Unfortunately, they could not complete the comeback and fell to a strong team from Pickering HS.
It was usy week for the Jr. Boys who travelled to UCC to take on a very talented and tough group of young men. We got off to a great start which gave us a comfortable lead going into the half. Early in the second half UCC made their move and took the lead for a brief stint. As we entered the fourth our boys tightened up their defense, regained the lead, and never looked back. In what was a very physical game, the Lions walked away with a 49-45 victory.
Hockey
The U-14 Hockey Team took their undefeated record to Buffalo, New York to take on Nichols School in their third last game of the regular season. The team quickly fell behind 1-0 but turned things around after they got used to their unfamiliar playing conditions. Playing on a wider ice surface, the team was able to use their speed to move the puck in creating a lot of scoring opportunities, which we capitalized on for 8 goals. Cole Eichler with 4, Samuel Li with 3 and Eric Chen with 1. The team also played a very strong defensive game with Roy Pejcinovski having another stellar game in goal and with the likes of Jake Katz, Adam Grunberg and Mateo Rocha making some great plays on the back end. With 3 of our parents cheering in stands, we were able to defeat Nichols School 8-2, improving our record to 7-0. Keep up the great work, your coaching staff is very proud of you!!!
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys hockey team with an absolutely incredible performance against Ridley College. The boys played a feisty, rough-and-tumble game packed with excitement, walking away with an impressive 5-5 draw against a tough team. With fantastic goaltending, brick wall defense and outrageous offense, Crestwood was able to fight off Ridley and walk away with a point. Next time, let’s stay out of the penalty box gentlemen!
