The Crestwood Junior Boys’ basketball team won the 64 team Kawartha Classic over the past weekend, winning 5 games over the course of two days. The boys got off to a hot start last Friday with wins over Crestwood Secondary School out of Peterborough and Maxwell Heights. On Saturday, the Lions defeated WC Kennedy in the morning before taking down a tough Notre Dame Ajax team in the semi-finals. The finals set up a rematch with Pine Ridge, who the Junior Lions defeated 111-96 in an NJC game a month ago. The championship game was back and forth until a big Crestwood run at the end of the 3rd quarter put Lions up 4 heading into the 4th quarter. The Lions built their lead to double-digits and then held on for an 83-72 win. The win was highlighted by back-to-back dunks by Elijah Fisher and Immanuel Oludele in the final minutes of the game. The Lions were led by Elijah Fisher’s 29 points and Immanuel Oludele’s 20. Kailon Nicholls added 15 points along with some terrific defense, while Matai Baptiste pitched in 12. The championship was a complete team victory as many players put in big minutes over the course of the weekend. Let’s go Lions!
The U14 D1 Boys basketball team hosted UCC Wednesday. The Lions came out to a strong start that led to 19-7 first quarter. The lions were fuelled by intense full court pressure and great ball movement, which helped the lions walk into halftime with a score of 33-15. The boys continued to play great defence and share the ball throughout the second half, which helped propel them to a 61-33 victory over UCC. Lions were led by Mikkel Tyne’s 18 , Marcus Green’s 16 and Jack Wu’s 8 points. This was a great team win for the Lions, almost every player got on the scoresheet, and the boys that did not, found other ways to impact the game. The U14 Boys hold a 6-0 record and hope to remain undefeated throughout the remainder of the season.
