Hear the story of Stanley Grizzle, the son of Jamaican immigrants who rose to become Canada’s first federal citizenship judge. Learn about George Carter, the founder of the Toronto Negro Veterans Association and one of the first black men to practice law in Canada. Listen to Royal Canadian Airforce veteran Leonard Braithwaite describe his wartime experience, and his journey to becoming the first black man elected to a provincial legislature in Canada. Travel across the battlefields of Europe with Montreal’s Robert “Bud” Jones, who just happens to also be a member of the Canadian boxing Hall of Fame. Perhaps the most appropriate way to begin your journey into the OHP archives would be listening to the interview with the Hon. Jean Augustine, who in 1993 helped to make Black History Month and official part of Canada’s calendar.
