Basketball
The Crestwood Junior Boys’ Basketball Team picked up a huge 63-58 win at St. Michael’s College in the opening game of their CISAA season! It was a hotly contested matchup with Crestwood leading by as much as 10; however, the game was not over until Jaden Langley-Thomas stole the ball with 7 seconds left and added a lay-up at the buzzer to push the lead to 5. Jaden scored 26 points, K’Shawn Latty added 18, while Matthew Nelsons chipped in 14. Other scorers included Caiden Oshinowo with 6 and Imani Mighty with 1. The Junior Boys will be back in action next Monday with a road game at UCC.
The U14 Boys’ Basketball Division I Team played their very first game Wednesday at Bayview Glen and left feeling confident and strong as they started the season of with a win! Our starting line up dominated the court in the first quarter, giving the team a good lead. All 15 boys played and put in a great effort, working together to showcase true talent on the court. Looking forward to a great season boys! Well done!
Wednesday afternoon the U-14 Division II Team traveled to Bayview Glen to play in their first game of the season. They were playing against an older team but they held their own. Great ball handling by Eli Horowitz and Ryan Wise, excellent leadership from Jamie and Cole Luepann, and great defense by Sam Ghiassi and Alex Wagner. Despite the loss the boys played hard, worked well together and had great enthusiasm.
Swimming
The Varsity Swim Team dove into their season with a great meet Tuesday at the Markham Pan Am Pool. All swimmers showed improvement throughout the day, and posted some great times. Congratulations to those who made new personal best times; Robert Muresan, Andy Tang, and Kaitlyn Balter! We had four swimmers who accomplished the tough feat of placing in the top 8. Shout outs go to Mohamed Basha for placing 6th in his 50 Free and 4th in his 100 IM, and Matthew Laslop for placing 4th in his 100 Breaststroke and 100 Free, and 3rd in his 100 IM.
Volleyball
On Wednesday, the Junior Girls’ Volleyball Team played their season opener against TMS. Having only had a few practices as a team and learning a new system, the girls played admirably against a strong opposition. Recognition must go out to the serving of Maya Berger and Zakayla Day-Burrell, the leadership of Jadaia Reid, and the passing of Megan Pearlman. Although we lost the game, the girls showed that there is great potential as we fine tune our court play.
