They have done it again!!! Our very own Crestwood Senior Boys’ DII team is RED HOT! On Tuesday the boys visited Lakefield College and competed in their most competitive game so far. For the majority of the game, our Lions trailed by as much as 12 points. Kabier Izzeldin’s putback dunk was a game changer. The Lions rallied back in the third quarter to take the lead by two points. In the fourth quarter, there was no stopping the Crestwood defence. Transition bucket after, transition bucket was second only to the hailstorm of 3 hit by Dave McCall. The Lions returned to Toronto with the win over Lakefield 52 to 40. Wednesday the Senior Boys’ DII had another nail-biter when they visited De La Salle. The game started off very slowly with the Lions again being down 15 to 5 in the first quarter. It seemed like there was a lid on the basket, shots just would not fall. However, the defence did it again!!!! The full court press and great ball pressure from Dave McCall, Cole Morrison, and Jacob Newman were unstoppable. Erik Usher, Derek Boecker and Kabier Izzeldin capitalized on the guard play by securing every loose ball. Special mention goes out to Kabier Izzeldin for his 6 blocks in the game. The Lions won 59 to 46. Keep Working Hard Lions!
Curling
Monday, our Varsity Boys and U14 curling teams participated in the Olympics demonstration sport of Synchronized Curling, with both teams playing BVG, both teams scoring 9 points for a win, and both teams giving up only a single point in the fourth end. Great effort! Canada’s Olympics Mixed Doubles curling team was clearly inspired by these wins as they also went on to win the gold medal in Monday’s finals. Good curling!
Hockey
The U-14 hockey team had the game of their season Thursday night, playing a beautifully executed match in a win over Country Day School. The boys looked terrific on the ice in terms of positioning and full team hustle. Eric Chen delivered 4 pucks to the back of the net on his birthday, with Adam Grunberg and Mateo Rocha joining him on the score sheet. A huge shout out to Thomas Xiong, whose skating and defensive abilities have improved immensely since the beginning of the season. Good job lions!
Tuesday night the Varsity Hockey Team traveled to Bond Lake Arena to take on a very strong HTS team and with a win, it would be the final piece to the puzzle to securing hosting rights in the CISAA Championships on March 2. CPC looked sluggish at the start going down 1-0, but with some good goaltending and offensive support, the team was able to re-group and claw their way back to a 4-2 win. With the win, CPC will be hosting this year’s CISAA Championships on March 2.
Thursday night the Varsity Hockey Team traveled to Port Hope in their final game of the regular season and the team did not disappoint. Firing on all cylinders, CPC jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. Great play by all at both ends of the ice allowed CPC to finish off the year with an impressive 9-1 record. The team will now prepare for the CISAA Championships on Friday, March 2 at Fenside Arena. Mr. Vaillancourt and Mr. Tanev are proud of the hard work each player has demonstrated this season and we look to continue it in the Championships.
