Complimentary PRESTO Cards

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The TTC has been working closely with our school to provide complimentary PRESTO cards to all students. The purpose of this initiative is to help students make the transition away from TTC passes and tickets, to the PRESTO fare card as smooth as possible. While children up to 12 years old will continue to ride the TTC for free, children 6 to 12 years of age will be required to tap a PRESTO card every time they enter a subway station and whenever they board a bus or streetcar. Tapping validates their card as being a child card (no fare will be deducted) and will provide the TTC with helpful service planning data.

Each PRESTO card will come with an information brochure that explains more about PRESTO and how you can load money or a monthly pass onto your child’s card.

Students in grades 7 and 8 will receive adult cards, which they will need to take to a Shoppers Drug Mart, along with their government issued ID, to have their card programed to a child or youth card. All other students will receive a pre-set card with a child or youth fare type on it. This pre-set fare type will expire on December 31, 2019. Children and youth will need to present their child or youth card to a Shoppers Drug Mart location prior to December 31, 2019, along with government issued ID, to have the card set to their birthday.

Cards are expected to arrive at our school in the coming weeks and we will work with our staff to distribute them to each student. Attached you will find some information about PRESTO on the TTC and the different ways you can pay a fare using PRESTO. An information brochure, containing similar information as this flyer, will also be provided with each PRESTO card.
