On Friday, October 4th, 61 chess players from all over the GTA came to Crestwood for the Toronto Secondary School Individual Chess Championship. Fourteen players from Crestwood also threw their hat in the ring to contest the trophy.
Players played four 90-minute matches over the course of the day. Medals were awarded to the top winners in each grade. Tony Wu was Crestwood’s top player, finishing in a tie for first place in the Grade 10 division. All players gained valuable tournament experience and represented Crestwood well.
Mr. Jull would like to thank Mr. Cardona for his assistance with the Crestwood Chess Club, Ms. Newton for help in facilitating the tournament, Isabelle Rigny for her help in setting up, Aramark Foods for feeding us all day long, and to the custodial staff for turning the gymnasium into a chess hall for the day.
