We are going to kick off our book drive next week! As most of you will remember from last year, any books donated to our book drive will be given to the Children’s Book Bank. This is an amazing charity in Toronto that allows underprivileged children to go to a beautiful space, participate in activities that encourage a love of reading, and each child gets to take a free book home to start their personal library. Many of these children can’t afford books, so this is the opportunity they have to acquire a book of their own.
While the book drive will continue throughout the year, we wanted to start this year off with a BIG donation from Crestwood! Next Wednesday, November 23rd, students who bring a book to donate are invited to dress up as their favourite literary character for the day. Bring a book, wear a costume. No book? No costume. Costumes could be anyone from Anne of Green Gables to Harry Potter to the Paper Bag Princess – be creative! Teachers are, of course, encouraged to participate as well!
Bins will be set up in the brick hallway, the library, and the atrium. House Heads will be around to collect additional books that don’t fit in the bins, so don’t worry if there is overflow.
We are hoping parents and students take this opportunity to go through their bookshelves and donate as many books as they can to help the Children’s Book Bank. Please encourage your students to participate. There will also be information for students on the news.
The bins will remain in the hallway, library, and atrium throughout the year for other donations, just like last year.
Thanks, as always, for helping make this initiative a great success!
