The Grade 3’s got dressed up as early settlers and were transported back to Upper Canada in the 1800’s. A costumed educator visited with students virtually in their classroom, shared videos, and photos from the Village, and led an active exploration of life in the 1800s. We learned about the life of the early settlers and the challenges that were faced by these new families. We covered the topics of food, clothing, education, recreation and work, and the roles of children. We learned that children had many chores in their everyday lives back in 19th century Ontario and we wonder how they lived without any technology.
