Robichaud, Joseph

Joseph Robichaud was born September 13, 1939 in Shippagan, New Brunswick. He grew up in that small French community, attending school and watching the planes return from the overseas war. Joseph joined the Canadian military when he was 17:  he wanted to be bilingual, so he joined an English regiment.  Joseph was motivated by his older brother, who had also joined up and who had gone to Korea. Two of his brother’s friends were killed in Korea, and tragically Joseph’s brother committed suicide a few years after the war.  Joseph himself was attached to the 8th Canadian Hussars, and later the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada, and his military career lasted more than 30 years. During that time he completed many overseas deployments, including Germany, Cyprus, and Egypt. He also married and started a family during the period known as the “Golden Age of Canada”.  Joseph was interviewed by Scott Masters at his home in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec in March 2026.
