Dear Parents,
As the month of April comes to a close, we can’t help but wonder, is spring really here?? Usually, we say April showers bring May flowers; in our case it was April freeze, which we hope will still bring us May flowers! Despite the cold outside, Crestwood school has been buzzing with activity and joy.
We had a fabulous Earth Week celebration, filled with lots of school spirit and enthusiasm for protecting our beautiful planet! A big thank you goes out to Mr. Cooper and the househeads for running such fun recess activities throughout the week.
Grade 1 and 2 students have embraced creative expression at Ms. Campbell’s Pop-Up Art Station. The artists explored pastel, paint, and even glitter! Not to worry – anyone who didn’t get a turn this week will definitely get a turn to visit next week.
In the Junior Division, students have been busy working on their speeches for the Junior Division speech contest happening on May 26th. Students in grades 4-6 will each write and deliver a speech to their classmates, of whom one student will be chosen to represent their class in the speech finals. Seeing students brainstorm, research, draft and write their speeches with passion and determination has been so enjoyable to watch! We are so proud of the progress students have made this year and look forward to seeing the finished products.
A big thank you to those of you who have already donated to our two initiatives to support the people of Ukraine. Art supplies have been flying in and are continuously being shipped and delivered to children in Ukraine. We are also collecting monetary donations to support Ukrainian refugees arriving in Canada. If you’d like to donate, please write a cheque made out to Crestwood School and we will be making a lump sum donation on your behalf to the Canadian Ukrainian Immigrant Aid Society (CAUIS). We will also be hosting a Support Ukraine Spirit Day next Friday, May 6th. Students are invited to wear blue and yellow and bring in any amount of money to be contributed to shipping costs for the art supplies and to the CAUIS.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to welcoming May (and hopefully warmer weather) next week!
