Dear Parents,

We are finally saying goodbye to the long, cold month of January! We want to thank you for your support and patience during the first couple weeks back when we had to be online. While remote learning is never ideal, we are so proud of our students for their resilience and positive attitudes! It was so amazing to welcome the students back into our school building, and with lots of snow to play with!  Please remember to send your child to school dressed for outdoor activities so they can enjoy their recesses in the snow with their friends.

This month certainly brought us some weather challenges. Thank you for your patience at pickup times. Please be reminded to drive with extra caution and be courteous to other drivers. We are consistently in contact with the city to ensure the roads are plowed as efficiently as possible. We continue to be in discussions with Glendon as we wait for their hill to be reopened.

On Thursday this week, the grade 6 students had the opportunity to virtually participate in the “Never Again” presentation in honour of Holocaust Remembrance Day. Led by Rabbi David Paskun, the theme of relating what happened in the Holocaust to things we see everyday, really brought the message down to a personal level. All the presenters left us with the challenge of what WE can do TODAY to make the world a better place and ensure everyone is treated equally and with respect. The presenters also touched on the importance of celebrating young people who stand up against injustice, here and around the world. We will continue to touch on these themes and inspiring messages as we move into February and approach Pink Shirt Day at the end of the month. Please read a more detailed summary of the presentation in the newsletter.

Next week, we will be kicking off our MS Read-A-Thon initiative with an introduction assembly. Students will be encouraged to sign up to join our school’s fundraising efforts and read as many books as they can while raising money for Canadians living with MS. The MS Read-A-Thon will continue through the month of February. Stay tuned for more details!

We hope everyone has a safe and restful weekend. Stay warm!
