Basketball
Congratulations to the U14 Girls’ Basketball team who won the CISAA championships this weekend. The girls had an undefeated season and went into the final four ranked #1. CPC made it through the semi-final game against Branksome Hall with ease moving them onto the championship game against Greenwood. In a tight back and forth match CPC came out victorious beating Greenwood 45-35. Congratulations to the entire team on a fantastic season!!!
Monday night the Junior Lady Lions Basketball team traveled to Branksome Hall to complete their regular season and the team did not disappoint. In a game that saw all members of the team score at least one basket if not more, the Lady Lions walked away with a 64-52 win, sealing home court advantage for this Saturday’s CISAA Junior Girls’ Basketball Championship hosted by CPC. Great play by all this entire regular season. For those that are free this Saturday and want to swing by the school, the Lady Lions have their first game at 9:00 am with the Finals beginning at 12:00 pm. See you there!
This weekend our Senior Girls’ Prep Basketball team participated in the Colts Classic at Centennial College. After cruising through pool play our Lions were able to hold after receiving their first real test from a very good Capital Courts Academy out of Ottawa ON. In the finals, the Lions faced off with a very physical St. Laurent team out of Quebec. The halftime score was 40-25 in favour of St. Laurent, but as the intensity picked up so did our play. Our Lions mounted a furious comeback which led to a victory. The final score was 66-59 Crestwood. Aaliyah Edwards was named tournament all-star, and Shayeann Day-Wilson was tournament MVP.
The Senior Prep Boys’ Basketball team finished 3 wins and 1 loss over the weekend at the NPA’s Eastern Session in New Brunswick. All games were played at Rothesay Netherwood School located just outside of St. John. The team racked up huge offensive numbers, averaging 108 points per game over the 4 contests. The boys defeated Halifax Prep, BEAST Prep, and Rothesay Netherwood School before falling to Toronto Basketball Academy in the 4th and final game. Jahcobi Neath, Elijah Fisher, and Luis Pacheco were named MVPs in various games. The boys also had the opportunity to speak with Ralph Thomas, a leader and educator of Black History in New Brunswick. Topics included Black Loyalists, major immigration of black individuals into New Brunswick, and the changing of several racist names in the province. It was a great history lesson!
Volleyball
The Junior Boys’ Volleyball team competed in the playoffs Tuesday at HTS. With amazing plays at the net by Elijah Fisher and Hayden John, and fantastic serves by Zach Graff and Kian Torabi, the boys put up a hard fight. The game went to fours sets, with HTS defeating CPC 25-18. Coaches Letham and Wappel are proud of the team for the great season, and thank everyone for playing.
