Have you ever wondered what life was like for the Early Settlers in the 1800’s? The Grade 3’s stepped back in time and spent a day at Black Creek Pioneer Village to find out. The children and teachers dressed up in time period clothing to experience life in Upper Canada in the 1860s. We toured many of the village homes and shops and learned about the hardships of the pioneers. We visited the one room schoolhouse, the doctor’s office, blacksmith, tinsmith, general store, and the rustic homes and barns. The Grade 3 students ended the day by playing with some old-fashioned toys and making a pioneer craft. As we travelled back to the future we reflected on our life today. We concluded that many things have changed and we gained an appreciation for our wonderful, modern life.
