Congratulations to all our members who ran: Kyra Grossman, Samara Black, Jennifer Wang, Tommy Zheng, William Dennison, Jimmy Liu and Yale Zhang. Special mention to Kyra who placed 6th in her midget girls division and to Jennifer Wang who also ran a great race yesterday at Durham Forest. She was a super trooper.  Great job everyone!

Basketball

The U14 Lady Lions continued in their winning ways Wednesday night defeating BSS 56-29.  The Lady Lions started off slow, once again, but were able to find their rhythm which resulted in them taking the lead and never looking back. Strong defense, keeping BSS to only 9 points in the second half and explosive offense, scoring 36 consecutive points, resulted in a very convincing second win of the season.  Great play by all on both sides of the court with special mention going to Saleah Joseph who dropped 27 points!!!  Keep up the good work!!!

Monday our Sr. Girls’ Basketball team travel to Villanova College for a very exciting game.  Going into the 4th it was just a two-point game, but led by the sharp shooting of Shayeann Day-Wilson and Areej Burgonio, CPC was able to secure the win.  The final score was 69-50 Crestwood.  Shayeann Day-Wilson led all scorer with 29 points.

Volleyball

The  U14 Boys’ Volleyball team had their second game last Friday at UCC. The boys looked more united as a team and were serving up a storm.  Unfortunately, despite Crestwood’s focus and improvement on bumps and good passes, UCC beat them out with some great three hit volleyball.  Shout out to Cole Luepann and Robert Dumoulin-White for their determined digs.

The boys on the U14 Volleyball team looked like a completely different team on the court while playing against The York School Monday.  The hustle to get every ball was real and was matched with an equal level of communication. Even the coach at The York School was amazed with how the Crestwood boys were putting in 100% to get every ball. Crestwood won their first game in the set and had close scores in the other three games such as; York-25 and Crestwood 21. Sadly, all the effort did not amount to an overall win but they can be proud of their accomplishments thus far.  Shout outs go to Gabriel Pogrin for his killer serves and Josh Deng for his consistent passes.  Way to go boys, good luck next week!

The Junior Boys’ Volleyball team continued their season games Monday night here at CPC.  The boys started off strong, and won the first set against TYS 25-15.  Great plays at the net were seen by middle players Cameron Frank and Anthony Radford-Grant, while Max Wolburgh showed off his consistent serves!  Even with the fantastic start, TYS clawed their way back to win the next three sets, which won them the game.  Coaches Hann and Wappel are proud of the improvement they’ve seen within the team so far, and are looking forward to what the rest of the season will bring.

Soccer

Monday the U14 Boys’ Soccer team, hosted their first home game versus The Toronto York School.  The Lions started out strong,  taking the lead with Adam Pearlman lacing one by the keeper in the first 20 minutes of the game. The York School was resilient, and in the second half, after a few of our Lions went down with injuries. TYS saw this opportunity to take the lead scoring 2 quick goals. Showing great adversity, CPC battled back to tie the game with a beautiful goal by Zack Graff. However, with 15 minutes left in the game, TYS got a penalty kick and won the game 3-2.

On Wednesday, the Junior boys’ soccer team faced off against Greenwood.  It was a battle of two very good teams right from the beginning.  The chances were very limited as both defenses were able to shut down most of the attacks.  Unfortunately, Greenwood was able to capitalize on the few opportunities that they had.  Ege Kuseybat scored our lone goal as we were defeated this time 3-1.  The season is still young and this team will surely bounce back next game.

The Senior Boys’ Soccer club opened up its season away from home at Toronto French School.  The game itself proved to be a battle from the get-go as CPC cut TFS’ lead to 1 goal on FOUR separate occasions during what turned out to be a roller coaster of a game. The game went from 1-0 TFS to 1-1 to 2-1 to 3-1 to 3-2 to 4-2  and to 4-3. At 4-3 Sam Douey motivated CPC even more by saving a direct kick with the game on the line.  But TFS was not too denied on this day and despite some good pressing on our part, TFS went up 5-3 to put the game out of reach.  Making the final 6-3 TFS.  Honorable mentions go to our goal scorers David McCall, Jesse Codron, and Joseph Eisentraut. And a special shout-out goes to Alex  Korda and Jesse Codron who got the chance to play with the senior team and did not disappoint.

The Senior Boys’ Soccer team entered its home opener against Greenwood Wednesday afternoon with high expectations… and at times did not disappoint. Periodic displays of focused pressing, precision passing, and effective shooting account for the team’s two goals on the day, courtesy of Charlie Nogas and Aren Karshafian.  However, some untimely turnovers and shoddy defending undid the team as it dropped its second game of the year 4-2.  The team’s next game is at home to Lakefield on October 11th.
