Thank you to everyone for your efforts and care during Earth Week this year. We were lucky to have beautiful days full of sunshine. We were also lucky to have a visit from Toronto Council Fire – an organization based in Toronto that does educational outreach. Kevin Myran runs a program called, “Little Embers” in which he tells stories and educates children on Anishnawbe culture and perspectives.
Kevin told Madame Martin that he hoped his visit achieved his goal of making connections with one another, getting to know each other as fellow Canadians, and leave the kids with a positive feeling about themselves and others. Kevin, his son Dakota, and his friend Thunder Jack succeeded in leaving us with beautiful music in our heads and a positive feeling about ourselves and our fellow Canadians.
To quote Omeymah from 1A, “Their music filled my heart up with air.”
We played outdoor educational games every day of the week – each with an important message on the challenges we face to heal the earth and how we can help make our future greener!
Madame Martin wants to thank all the teachers who helped out with these games (Mlle. Phardis, Mr. Greenacre, Ms. Brenzel, Ms. Campbell, Ms. Rothblott, Ms. Seligman, Ms. Suckstorff, Ms. Sharfstein, Ms. Davies, Ms. Krashinsky, Ms. Bafaro, Ms. Fuller, Ms. Maurer, Ms. Alter, Ms. Hodgson, Mr. Connors, and Mr. Conn) and all the students who did such a great job participating in them!
Finally, we sought to carry out our green initiatives – recycling, re-using, reducing litter and making our pledge to the earth that we will be responsible stewards from now on.
Merci Merci Merci!!
Happy Earth Day!!
Madame Martin
